Homemade Sloppy Joes



1 1/2 lb  lean ground beef

1 onion, finely chop

1 small red pepper, seeded and finely chopped

15 ml (1 tbsp.) Chili powder

5 ml (1 teaspoon) dry mustard

30 ml (2 tbsp.) Oil-Olive

60 ml tomato-paste

2 garlic cloves, finely chopped

250 ml (1 cup) chicken broth

1/2 cup (125 ml) chili sauce

30 ml (2 tbsp.) White vinegar

30 ml (2 tbsp.) Brown sugar

15 ml (1 tbsp.) Worcestershire sauce

Salt and pepper

4 large hamburger buns

8 hamburger buns

1 1/2 cups (375 ml) grated sharp yellow cheddar cheese


Instructions :

In a large skillet, brown the meat, onion, peppers and spices in the oil. Salt and pepper.

Add the tomato paste, garlic and continue cooking for 1 minute, stirring. Add the rest of the ingredients except the breads and cheese and bring to a boil.

Cover and simmer over low heat for about 15 minutes. Adjust seasoning.

Toast the buns and top with the meat and cheese mixture.
